6502 Documentary - raw footage available

Post by BigEd »

Some few years ago we discussed a crowd-funded project to make a 6502 documentary. Although the crowdfunding was successful, unfortunately progress slowed to a stop and the project is now cancelled.

I'd prefer not to get into discussion about the cancellation or the mechanics of crowdfunding in this thread, if we can manage that.

But I would love to share discoveries made in the trove of raw footage which Jason has made available. It's raw, but surely contains much of interest.

For example, there are several short interviews here with Dr. Donald Hanson, the originator of the famous 6502 block diagram, who used the 6502 in his teaching and took the step of visiting MOS, being rewarded with his own copy of the enormous original 6502 schematics.

Wow, I can see how the project would fall apart just from getting out of control, with dozens (hundreds?) of hours and hundreds of gigabytes! Where to start?! Whatever anyone watches and wants to give us some guidance as to what parts are best to spend a little time on, would be appreciated.
http://WilsonMinesCo.com/ lots of 6502 resources
The "second front page" is http://wilsonminesco.com/links.html .
What's an additional VIA among friends, anyhow?

Sorry if I'm missing a previous discussion, but what's the license on these? Would we even have consent to create a documentary?

I'm wondering if this would be something you could approach a tech museum with, if only because they might have suggestions how to even start something like this. It also looks like a nice thesis subject for a historian ...

Good question Scot, fortunately with a clear and useful answer:
Quote:
All of the footage I've shot from all the documentaries is going on the Internet Archive. As of this moment hours are already up at this link, although metadata still needs to be entered and much more material needs to go up. I am releasing it all into the public domain, allowing anyone to use the footage however they wish to.

One artefact of the documentary process which might hold some interest is the list of possible characters, which includes, for some, a little info on their notability.

What's more, Jason intends to auction off the domains, so if you want "the6502.com" you know who to contact to participate.
