The fine folks at playpower.org have made the famicom platform available to the US:

Hmmm...that's interesting.

I hope they emulate an MMC1 or MMC3 cartridge. The stock NES basically expects its character graphics in ROM, and only carts that have a special MMC in them can use RAM for graphics.

(I did two projects on the NES in 1988-1989.)

The idea is to be able to extend both ram and rom for programming purposes. QWe had good discussions :D

I just re-looked at the website and its on sale for $30 if anyone is intersted.

Edit - Its also out of stock so I may have been too late. There is a place to leave your email to be notified when more are available.

Still has potential, am hoping the Playpower group can get the junk units weeded out, hope refunds can occur. would be better out here with a PS2 keyboard port and a tiny box instead. For developing countries where a ton can be shipped in for cheap, the entire unit would be a better bet.

They are in stock again.

I'd be interested if it were possible to pull the ROM and install my own but I'm assuming it's probably soldered down.

I think that they are using a die on board with an epoxy glob over it. The computer itself is a NOAC kind of thing. (nintendo on a chip). not sure how, I will still have to get one in general...

Hi there, does anyone know any updates on PlayPower? The website seems less than maintained...
Thanks
André
