Re: John Bell 6502 "82-300" Board Info'

I'm fascinated by the little 3-chip(+) designs of the late 70's and early 80's that used a 6532 for 128 bytes of RAM plus I/O (like the Beta, CEPAC-6502, and EMUF-6504).

Last year I read about the John Bell Engineering "82-300" board which is the simplest design with a 6532 chip that I've seen so ...

Carsten,

It has been a long time since I fooled with the FORTH on the SYM, but as I remember it, I have a comple printout of the FLEX FORTH that I ran on the SYM. I beleive it is the same code as the FIG group published. I looked thru a lot of the screens and it all looked the same. The reason I ...

SYM DOS system

I replaced one of the 5-1/4 inch disk drives with a current production 3-1/2 inch IBM PC type 1.44Mb drive. The electronics in the DOS I have posted worked ok with the drive using 720k disk media. I posted more details in my web site shown in earlier posts.

WD 1700 software

Phil,

The first DOS I made work on my SYM was built using a Radio Shack TRS 80 floppy controller board. This board used a WD 1793 disk controller. I used it because I had one (in 1985) and it had most of the electronics to support the disk controller chip. I later built up a new controller from ...

SYM to Commodore 1541 disk drive interface

I have a SYM DOS that is centered around a Commodore 1541 disk drive. The DOS was written by Don Jordan who was selling them in 1984. The DOS has links to the SYM Monitor, RAE and BASIC. I burned the DOS code into EPROM and a very simple interface (one or two 7400 series) plugs into one of the SYM ...

SYM/KIM 44 pin edge connectors

If you do not find the connectors in France, they are avaliable here a few places. This style of connector is not used very much here anymore. It is something linke 0.156 inch center to center, as I recall. This was a standard connector in the 1960's and 70's but was replaced by newer connectors ...

SYM-1 Development system

I have just posted some photos of one of my SYM's that I built up in the 1980's. I have developed several custom designed electronic systems using 6502's. I developed the hardware and software using my SYM's with RAE, disaRAE, BASIC FORTH etc as the development platform. The photos at

I just looked thru my favorites for the place that had the images of the PROM for the SYM and AIM. Look at the following site where you can download anything you want for either of these machines. The one thing I do not know, is , what it takes to get from the PC to a EPROM. You would obviously need ...

I have several SYM-1's that I bought in 1979 and have used extensively. I have the RAE and BASIC for the SYM. They were both made to run from ROM or EPROM at specific addresses. Some people back then re-assembled the assembler and BASIC to run from RAM as I recall. They then filled up the address ...
