Re: Really strange 6502 computer problem

Nice Idea! Tried it - But still doesn't work.
Can you show us what you tried? Here is what I would do with the Arduino:

1. Pull 6502 and LCD resets high
2. Wait 1 second
3. Pull 6502 and LCD resets low
4. Wait 1 second
5. Pulse 6502 clock up and down 10 times
6. Pull 6502 and LCD resets high
7 ...

Re: Really strange 6502 computer problem

You mentioned that you have an Arduino. Could you remove the button, resistor, and capacitor and wire up one of the Arduino outputs to control the 6502 reset? That would at least help you diagnose the problem even if you don't plan to rely on the Arduino for resets long term. You could also try ...

Re: Really strange 6502 computer problem

I live in Bulgaria.

I have tried to hold the button, but still no change. Installed a pull-up resistor on the IRQ pin - no change. Measured all voltages - all OK.

Is this oscilloscope https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32973233356.html Going to help?.

I also noticed Ben doesn't have a capacitor on ...

Re: Really strange 6502 computer problem

...reflect on your time vs money tradeoff, which is a personal thing.... If you have money, you could (for example) buy a replacement LCD display....
Another option: if you have money and feel that you are serious about hardware hacking, an oscilloscope (though generally not one of the $30 digital ...

Re: Really strange 6502 computer problem

What are the other chips you have in the circuit? If any of them require 5v, you might want to check the voltage at the power pin of each chip and the LCD individually. Depending on the breadboard and wires you're using, it could be dropping significant voltage, though it looks like you're using ...

Re: Really strange 6502 computer problem

But, Why does this problem occur? I built the computer exactly how Ben did. He didn't have this problem.

He didn't have any capacitors, any different parts etc.

Is there an easy way to fix the problem without adding any parts? Just rewire something?

Re: Really strange 6502 computer problem

Thanks for the photos!

When you say the capacitor didn't work, do you mean it didn't fix the problem?

So, you need to power-cycle the whole machine - reset isn't enough. Is never enough, or is usually not enough?

Have you any way to tell if it's just the LCD display which isn't coming up - can ...

Re: Really strange 6502 computer problem

We need some photos of your project, please. :) This is important -- can be very helpful. And tell us about the CPU you're using -- was it purchased new from a reputable dealer, or is its origin somewhat doubtful?

Also, do you have a voltmeter or DMM available? (What about other gadgets, such as a ...

Re: Really strange 6502 computer problem

Unfortunately I don't have any other parts that I can use. The capacitor on the reset switch doesn't work, I tried it.

I also attached some pictures of my project:

Re: Really strange 6502 computer problem

The LCD is fine I have used it before in other projects, but I have noticed that the reset switch doesn't work. I have checked the schematics and it seems like everything is OK.

I've attached how I wired the reset switch.

Really strange 6502 computer problem

Hey, everyone :D

I built Ben Eater's 6502 breadboard computer, but something strange is happening:
When I try to turn the computer on it just turns on the LCD backlight and I need to plug it in and out a lot of times so it can show the text on the screen.

Can this problem be fixed?

Best regards ...
