Re: Address PROM Image for Synertek FDC-1 "PerSYMone"
OKay I have attached the text print out of the prom, which indicates it exactly mirrors the default memory map for the SYM. The outputs are chip selects for the controller's i/o map. $9000 for the eprom, $f000 for the fdc controller and $f100 for the control port. The outputs are low for the chip ...

Re: Address PROM Image for Synertek FDC-1 "PerSYMone"
I have a PerSYMone controller with a stock prom. (I'm having problems reading floppys at the moment although it does address the controller at least.) I have to admit I am unsure how I might easily get an image of the contents but am willing to try. I also vaguely recall that in an issue of ...

Address PROM Image for Synertek FDC-1 "PerSYMone"
Does anyone have the stock PROM image for Synertek's FDC-1 floppy controller, called the "PerSYMone". It uses an 82S129 for address decoding and the one I have has been fitted with a PROM that has a custom address space. I have an adapter board designed for arcade machines that uses a fast EEPROM to ...

Re: SYM-1 Hex Display Question
I was able to get the PDF of "The SYM/KIM Appendix to the First Book of KIM" from okwatts (Thank you!) and here at long last is "Asteroid" running on a SYM-1:

Re: SYM-1 Hex Display Question
It has to be an issue with the Supermon hex keyboard routines, I used the converted KIM-1 routines SCAND, SCANDS, GETKEY, etc. from the July 1979 issue of MICRO to run the basic "read keyboard, write to display" test program from the beginning of "The First Book of KIM". The program works, but the ...

Re: which device programmer?
I have a TL866II and it's really useful, it can program most newer EEPROMs/ERPOMs/Microcontrollers but it has issues with older EPROMS that require 21/25v. It's worth having though just for the fact that it can also test most 74 logic and ram chips. For older 25v EPROMS like 2716/32/64 and 2516/32 ...

Re: SYM-1 Hex Display Question
I think you guys are right, it seems the GETKEY routine for the KIM-1 also scans the display while polling the keyboard, I'm guessing the SYM-1's Supermon does not so that's why the display does not update... I've found an article from MICRO that discusses adapting the KIM-1 routines for the SYM-1 ...

SYM-1 Hex Display Question
I have recently resurrected a Synertek SYM-1 from some mishap in the past that killed most of it's major ICs and half it's LED display. I replaced the damaged components and everything seems to work now including RS-232 however I've noticed that when I hit any key on the hex keypad the display cuts ...

Re: Sym-1 2732 ROM replacement?
it's alive! Woo-hoo! :) Nice to hear.
Given the number of damaged chips, I wonder if somewhere in its past your poor SYM experienced a severe trauma, such as excessive voltage (or reverse polarity?) on the 5V supply. In fact I had something similar happen decades ago when 110 volts from the AC ...

Re: Sym-1 2732 ROM replacement?
Ok after a few hours of troubleshooting it's alive! In the course of testing I found that the 6502, 6532, both 6522s and 5 of 8 2114 rams were bad. After swapping out the chips with known good ones and testing the 2114s with an Arduino it seems to be working normally, save for 2 dead LED segments ...

Re: Sym-1 2732 ROM replacement?
is there a way to set the jumpers to allow the use of a 2732 in U20? Welcome. :)
I had a quick look at the block diagram (below) contained in the SYM-1 Reference Manual located in our Synertek SYM-1 Resources page, and I gather that the jumpers would allow a 2332 or a 2532 to be fitted. But no ...

Sym-1 2732 ROM replacement?
I have a Sym-1 that won't boot and I believe it might be the original 2332 mask ROM. I've burned a 2732 EPROM with Supermon 1.1 and wired the jumpers for the CS, OE and A11 pins but it didn't work. After reading through some of the documentation it seems that pin 20 for U20 is tied through an AND ...
