Short update, swapping the TL16C2752 out for a TL16C2552 did help, of course.

The TL16C2552 is not mentioned in the errata document, so it should be ok. I'm going to find out.

Beware of the TL16C2752 DUART

Hello,

I recently had my butt kicked by the TL16C2752 DUART. I could not get it to work on the Steckschwein, despite having used a 16C550 for over 10 years without any problems. The DUART kept receiving corrupted bytes. After 2 months of pulling my teeth and hair and whatnot, I finally found an ...

Re: VCFe - Vintage Computer Festival Europe on 3./4. Mai 202

Really? It’s been a long time since I last visited Germany, but I recall from then (a business trip) that the rail service was quite good. Traveled from Frankfurt to Kassel, stayed in Kassel for several days, and then returned to Frankfurt. The round trip was pleasant and the trains ran on time ...

Re: VCFe - Vintage Computer Festival Europe on 3./4. Mai 202

When I went to Japan, we took the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto, it was very nice. Quite, comfortable, no traffic hassle, and right on time.
Last time I rode on Amtrak, the A/C was on the fritz, the cafe car had run out of coffee and we sat for an hour on a passing track due to a freight train ...

There is nothing official yet that I know of, but rumour has it that they were not successful in finding a location, hence there will be no VCFb this year. :-(

Re: Introducing: "Steckschwein"

Also...the '816...is quite a different beast.
Yes it is, even in emulation mode—which isn’t quite the same as a real 65C02.

When I first started with the 65C816, I was using C02-style programming methods—old habits die hard, but soon realized I was felling trees with a stone axe, despite having ...

Re: Introducing: "Steckschwein"

Hmm...a bit surprised you aren’t going with the 65C816. There’s really no downside to using it when a CPLD is involved, as it can easily handle the bank bits demuxing. Working with large amounts of RAM becomes easy...and from a data perspective, it’s all linear address space.

First, the ...

Re: Introducing: "Steckschwein"

Does anyone make a trustworthy breadboard anymore?

German distributor Reichelt has this one from Digilent:
https://www.reichelt.com/de/en/shop/product/experimental_plug-in_board_kit_3x630_5x100_contacts-322830

80€ for a breadboard? It better be trustworthy...

I still went with a 20€ one ...

Re: Introducing: "Steckschwein"

Hmm...got an interesting error when I tried to visit that page.

Misdirected Request (Error 421)!

Sorry, but this page couldn't be served:

"domain not specified in .domains file"

Still? Works fine from my end. I suspect a caching issue on codeberg's side.

Let’s hope your breadboard ...

Re: Introducing: "Steckschwein"

Alrighty,

after getting the ATF1508-toolchain to work the next step was to make something to experiment/test the actual Steckschwein-VHDL on an ATF1508.. which happens to be a breadboard with what will evolve into the upcoming Steckschwein "core".

Re: Introducing: "Steckschwein"

It really sucks that Microchip is apparently unwilling to invest some time in cleaning up that mess called WinCUPL and port it so it can be run on a real operating system, instead of only on that mess called Windows. The underlying modules that do the compiling and fitting are all DOS programs ...

Re: Introducing: "Steckschwein"

This is an excellent write up of Quartus to ATF150x conversion process with many references. I have large stock of EPM7128SQC100, EPM7064SLC44 and still able to find a reliable source for EPM7128SLC84, but if I ever need to use ATF1508 and ATF1504, I’m bookmarking this link to aid future search ...

Yep!
There is also the ATF1508ASV which runs on 3.3V. One day, going to 3.3V will be unavoidable, but for now I am happy there are still 5V native CPLDs in active production.
