New / old project come to a live

I'm sorry guys to be so quiet for last 5 years . I have been busy , you know ..work .
I quit 6502 stuff , because i could not spend as much time time as I would like to .
Last week I found my old PCB's siting in my " forget about me box " , i could not resist to build one .
And I did it .

Wow! A very interesting-looking project, to say the least. I hope you'll find time to tell us more about it. You could start with some basic details, such as the I/O facilities and what your goals are.

Certainly does look interesting: an 816, a big CPLD, two big byte wide RAMs and a small dual-port RAM. A battery for some kind of data retention, an SDCard on board, also PS/2 and VGA by the look of it. A 25MHz clock so presumably the board runs at 12.5MHz approx?

Yes, very impressive set of peripherals. The photo is also proof the TQFP 65816 exists. In addition to the things BigEd pointed out, there's also a USB port and an ATMega of some sort near it. I wonder if it is driving the USB, SDCard, and PC keyboard? There is an RTC chip just below the 6 pin header with the wires coming up and my guess is the battery is at least to supporting that.

Nice work Bound! I'll look forward to hearing more about it.

chips used , top side
1.) atmega 128 - keyboard , SD card (fat32) , 2 serial ports (one ttl and one over ft232 (missing chip on the back side ),real time clock and few I/o pins , atmega is also controlling Reset and NMI and 3 LED's
2.) 74573 latch
3.) 2K x8 dual-ported ram ( $F800 - $FFFF)
4.) Atmega88 with SwinSid firmware (max clock 1.5 MHZ)
5.) WDC65816
6.) DS1307 (real time clock )
7.) XC95216 cpld in 160 pin package (*)
8.) 64KB x16 ram for color and screen storage (c64 text mode)
9.) 512KB x8 for font/graphic/system storage-memory

so on the top edge we have sound , usb(rs232) ,SD card ,PS2 keyboard and 8bit VGA connectors.

on the back side we have
1.) 74ls07 to translate voltages 3.3V to 5V - SD card interface
2.) audio amplifier
3.) ft232 chip (missing)
4.) 3.3v voltage stabiliser
5.) 32MHZ crystal oscillator ( overclocked atmega88)

the red wire you see is a link between battery and RTC chip.

at the boot atmega is searching for the rom.bin file on the sd card , if file presents contend is copied to the ram and system is started

Where did you get the TQFP-44 version of the W65C816 from? I really would like to use this package.

I got them from WDC directly as a gift around 5 year ago.
