Newegg and Rockwell parts

Turns out Newegg is front-ending UTsource on selling some Rockwell CMOS 65xx parts as well as WD1772 FDC chips. Some quantity parts are cheaper than direct from UTsource, like qty 10 R65C51P4 for $35.33. Other chips include R65C02P4 and R65C22P4. Who knew...

I was also surprised to see the WD1772 FDCs, they're used in the Commodore 1581 drive. They have the P2 version which, IIRC, is the faster bus version. I still haven the WD2797 based controller I made for the Vic-20 over 25 years ago. Those required a lot of additional support logic.... Still, thinking about picking some up.

Are those new old stock or pulls? UTsource sells both... And I think "re packaged" ICs. Don't know anything about newegg.

Not sure if pulls or NOS. I did buy qty 10 of R65C02P4, R65C22P4 and R65C51P4 over a year ago from UTsource. They "looked" like NOS and all work fine so far. I did notice that the 65C22 chips have extremely soft and fragile leads however (a lead broke off of one), which I find a bit odd, perhaps refurbished?

As for Newegg, no issues. I've been buying computer parts from them for years. With the exception of Apple hardware, I buy almost everything else from Newegg. My current "Custo-MAC" is built on current PC parts, all from Newegg.

...or possibly a counterfeit. Not sure how you would be able to make that determination, however. The chip liquidator from which I bought my AMD 53CF94 SCSI controllers employs various methods, including X-rays, to weed out counterfeits from the surplus stock they buy up.

We use Newegg as a secondary parts source, and have had excellent results with them. They are seldom the best when it comes to price, but they handle all sales in a courteous and professional manner.

I wonder if the lead frames Rockwell used weren't the best. Without any abuse to the part, I had an R65C22P4 lead break off 20+ years ago so I soldered the IC to a DIP head so I could still use it. This was back when they were still in production.
