request: 6502 in early Dr. Dobb's Journal

Post by BigEd »

Has anyone here got access to early issues of Dr. Dobb's Journal? I'd particularly like to see articles referenced by Dennette Harrod in

"The 6502 Gets Microprogrammable Instructions" (archived link), namely There a few BYTE references in there too. Some BYTEs can be found online - I haven't yet tried to track down these ones.

I did find this index of 6502-related articles in later issues of DDJ:
which might also be of interest to people here if we can get them or find them.

Cheers
Ed

Edit: added some links.
Edit: two more links, thanks Mike!

Not what you asked for, but while searching, I found this: http://maben.homeip.net/static/S100/MAG ... 2%20micro/

Cheers - I think there's overlap with http://6502.org/documents/publications/micro/ but it's a handy reminder of the maben archive - there's heaps there!

Here's somebody with the early Dr. Dobb's original magazines: http://www.vintage-computer.com/magazines.shtml they don't seem to be scanned, but perhaps you can contact the owner.

I found a menu of past issues but the links lead to 404 File not found. Someone has them and you might have to talk to someone but they are there.

Hi Chuck, thanks. Arlet, I did previously mail Erik. Maybe I need to post on that forum, although there are fears about copyright over there (my approach would be to publish and state that any valid objection would be honoured.) I've seen people on the Fignition list with some copies too. Again, nothing online.

I think I've gathered that the present owner of DDJ has no rights to the earliest editions. The original article authors might yet have rights. I haven't been able to track them down.

"The XF and X7 Instructions of the MOS Technology 6502" turns out to be a single page, so I may as well post it:

How do the Dr. Dobbs work? There is a wealth there I have not been taking advantage of; but I have been looking for example for
Quote:
Gordon, H T, "Use of NOP Codes as Executable Labels" Dr. Dobbs Journal, Volume 3, Issue 8, September 1978, page 29.
and I cannot find it. Volume 3 Page 29 (and surroundings) are about the ISIS OS and the SAM76 language. Page 29 is in number 1, not issue 8 which starts on page 338, and the date matches, Sep '78. Looking for the title above in the table of contents starting on page 8 of the .pdf, I don't find it anywhere, in any of the issues.
http://WilsonMinesCo.com/ lots of 6502 resources
The "second front page" is http://wilsonminesco.com/links.html .
What's an additional VIA among friends, anyhow?

Bear in mind these scans are of republished collected volumes of Dr Dobb's. So, in this case, page 365 of the PDF is marked as page 363 of the volume, and contains page 29 of the issue in question. Each issue is fronted by its own table of contents.

You should be able to text search the PDF as it contains a text layer. As the OCR won't be 100% accurate, you might have to search a few times in case the words you want have errors. But in this case, the title of the article has no errors.

I recently learnt that you can link directly to a page too:
http://archive.6502.org/publications/dr ... f#page=365
which will work in at least some browsers.

Edit: or see the flipbook view here.
