Atari (XL/XE) Emulators

Post by mdpenny »

Can anyone here suggest/recommend an emulator of the Atari XL/XE-type computers, preferably one that's (fairly) recent?

If any of these emulators can handle Atari floppy disc images, then even better :)

TIA,

Did you try Altirra? It's for Windows - I think it has a good technical foundation. The web page implies that it handles disk images.

Cheers

* I tried it on linux using WINE but it didn't work

Interesting - seems to work (under XP SP3), and also seems to have a wide range of options - can set for "standard" 400, 800, 600XL, 800XL, 65XE, 130XE, plus other memory sizes, and can "cook up" hybrid options as well.

Many thanks :D

Glad it worked - it was more of a suggestion, but I'll take your response as a recommendation!

I heard of it in a visual6502 context, because it has a test suite (7z archive), and the author wrote a good document about low level observations (pdf). It's all GPL too, which is a good sign.

Here are some screenshots from the Altirra page:

If not, it's not a real emulation. :D

From what I remember from a quick read of the docs, then yes - and has used some of the "spare" performance to improve accuracy.

There is one for the Nintendo DSI and I think it is a download.

There is an emulator on the Atari's Greatest Hits volume 2 for the Nintendo DS but you really need an oversized Nintendo DS XL because the keyboard is too small on a regular DS to get any typing done with the stylus.

I wrote a simple program to count continually and display the number. It was up to about 3 million before my son turned it off.
