Intel plans to rake you over their coals.

I refuse to use AMD. Their past products remind me of NMOS. There's an entertaining video on youtube here ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxSqCdT7xPY ) comparing THE video game (Quake 3) on an Intel based computer and an AMD based one. See for yourselves...
My PC with its AMD processor shut itself down a couple of times recently because the processor got too hot when the fan over the heat sink was going out and sometimes got too slow to do the job. No damage, but I kind of flooded the fan with a lubricant to keep the computer going. I did this a few weeks ago and it's been doing fine since then.

Any thought to replacing the fan? They're really quite inexpensive. :)

Well, most MPU coolers use 60 or 70mm fans. Jameco has a lot of that stuff and they're in your neck of the woods.

They have to run fans when I'm around to get rid of the dinosaur smell. :)

What is the socket type you run Garth?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... =BESTMATCH

or

Just select the socket type and you'll get a bunch of choices.
