If you don't like sidetracks, I'd recommend avoiding mentioning every time that you avoid Google.

For the good of the forum, it's great to have local attachments of schematics, and summaries of problems found and fixed.

But I see that for the good of an individual person who has dropped by for help or advice, if they've got what they wanted it seems fair that any extra effort is optional.

Any of us lifers could watch Ben's videos and do some screen captures and attach them, if we were so inclined.

I'll go along with that. Meaning: it's up to you, Frank, to decide if you've gotten what you wanted.

As for optional extra effort, I hope it doesn't seem we're being stuffed shirts when we suggest you provide photos and schematics. While it may be true as you say that Gilhad did an excellent and clear explanation of your circuits, a prose description still lacks detail. And although you've followed the instructions in Ben Eater's videos, there's room to doubt whether your project really is exactly the same as his (given that his project works, and yours has a problem).

Experience assisting others -- as well as our own troubleshooting! -- is what taught us to look into the details!

OK. I appreciate all your inputs, and will take note of them when I do ask for assistance.
Please note that in my first posts I just relayed my recent experience with circuits that did used to work perfectly, but now they don't. I also mentioned the fact that I was trying to figure out what was wrong.
And I don't want to sound ungrateful, but the reason I didn't bother to include more than a couple of Youtube links, is that I didn't really seek advice on fixing the problem. You learn more by figuring things out by yourself (and putting all the fancy test equipment accumulated over the years to some use) than letting someone else do it for you (that would be the easy way out IMO). If people are, understandably, reluctant to go the extra mile (feet, yard, meter ...) for whatever reason, you can understand that that goes both ways.
If or when I do hit a wall and come begging for some assistance, I'll be sure to include whatever is necessary to explain in detail what's going on (diagrams, pictures, videos, ...).
Just my 2 cts on the discussion.

BTW I use the Brave explorer on Win 10, and it does a decent job blocking adverts.

That’s two of us.  I've been known to crimp ring tongue terminals onto wires...and then solder them for good measure.
