I have repeatedly emailed, and i used the web interface once. All i get back is emails from Bill Mensch asking me why i want them. The web interface was like trying to adopt a kid from another country, they said my "application" to purchase them had to be "evaluated".

I'll email Mike, i spose.

Wow, you got an email from Mr. Mensch? Off topic on this thread. You got what you wanted? or do you need some IC's. If you want IC's check out WDC's distributor's list. I can speak positive results from TRG components...

TRG? Seriously? I keep hitting http://www.trgcomponents.com/TrgUS/Inte ... eID%3d6788 , and on http://www.trgcomponents.com/TrgUS/Inte ... tegoryID=0 i click on "8 bit microprocessors" with the 65xx logo there and all it does is refresh the page!

Any site that mandates i call them to get a login password before getting a pdf for the items they sell, and then they can't make a webpage that tells me what they sell, or the prices for it, forget them!

So that's why i waited 24 years to get a 65C02, and don't generally post on webforums. I'll wait another 24 yrs, i guess, until maybe humanity improves.

You have to bear in mind that WDC are in the business of licensing IP, and distributors are in the business of shifting 100's or 10,000's of parts. As hobbyists we have to get what we can, and it's best to make an effort to be easy to deal with. The profit on a $50 order doesn't pay for much pre-sales support. Ideally you deal with someone small-scale and in the same country.

Any site that offers 'samples' belongs to a business that wants to sell 'quantity' - you'll get a sample if you're lucky, but you have no right to get one. Be nice, be polite, be easy to deal with, and you'll have more luck.

As for TRG's site, I found this 65816 page which offers a PDF but only through a login. But all the datasheets are available on WDC's site anyhow.

I buy reels of parts. I don't ask for samples. I am polite when i know people aren't stalling me. Up until APATCO sold me two 65C02 a few weeks ago, all i could get for 25 years was old used nmos pulls. However, APATCO doesn't sell all of WDC's lineup, they sell only 2 chips. I have shut down projects that could have been commercialised, but for lack of 65xx chips. How WDC chooses to manage their business is beyond my control. So please pardon my impatience and frustration.

Did I read this right? You shut down potential revenue-generating projects because you couldn't use a 6502 to drive them? If you're certain of their commercial viability, that would not be a wise choice -- jump ship to another CPU and go to market!! I'm serious -- ARMs are huge (much to the chagrine of MIPS Technologies) and dirt cheap these days; even ATmega-series microcontrollers can match or often exceed the 6502's performance for numerous kinds of projects. Giving up a reasonable return on investment during a period of global recession just because it's not a 6502 at the helm doesn't make economic sense.

I used to be an architecture purist back in the day (particularly the 68000 and the Amiga days). Those days have long since past for me, especially after having lived below poverty line for some time twice.

There is no way I could have posted the above response on March 20th -- I was in Upstate NY at the time participating on a film shoot for Star Trek New Voyages. This whole thread is actually pretty old, IIRC, at least a year.

Up to 32 MIPS throughput at 32 MHz is claimed by the new Xmega series. :D
