dram refreshing!

Note I am not attempting to design a 6502 based circuit with drams! I'm currently looking at an old circuit which uses a dram based ram network.

Ok so I am referring to this website:-

http://xtronics.com/memory/how_memory-works.htm

I am asking people here because this information could be ...

thease web addys appear to support the claim that dram's are indead are cheaper than sram but are slower! I would say depending on where you are things are kinda different now, drams ...

sram and drams!

Well lots of us work with sram because its easy to work with and can cut down on development.

Ok so I've just looked at drams because I found this circuit that uses drams, which was invented and released first sram or drams?!

Any reason then why a device made in 1983 would use a number of drams ...

I'm going to use..

I'm going to use 74ls165 which has clocking input latch

reply to what do you plan?

Parallel port - I have another Idea, I'll get back to you.

might do the same idea with 2 ICS

It's proven easier and cheaper for me to get 2 IC's

serial to parallel & vise versa.

same idea though..

update! Note:

Note I want to know if this is ok because I want to use the same clock for both my address network and the bi directional shift register for the data network.

again I'm thinking of once the e2prom is setup, have it in readmode CS enabled!

the data then goes to the bi directional shift register, I ...

bi directional shift register!

Ok will this work?

e.g. a 74ls299 bi directioanl shift register!

Ok I hear that bi directional shift registers have a hold feature, does this mean - can I write data to the parallel lines as input (then hold that data) and then clock it out serially.

e.g. I have a e2prom setup(other circuit), I ...

just to update!

I found this site somewhere where its close to what I said but it says the strobe goes from a high to low transition for 500ns .5us and not 1us!

hmm?

http://www.geocities.com/dsaproject/computers/lpt_port.html

that website sounds correct... any thoughts on that, its probably not going to be to ...

I need an experienced reply! (LPT -SPP strobe pin!)

Ok

I wish to use the strobe pin of the LPT if possible

1.) The strobe pin is hardware controlled on SPP right?

2.) Is this ruffly the correct order of things:-

a. Date lines get data on them for 500NS
b. Then strobe pin goes from high to low for 1uS
c. Then the strobe pin goes from low to high ...

Intel 8243's!

There is a circuit that I want to build which uses 8243's!

Ok now I am going to try and get ahold of some but if I cant - is there anything similar to the intel 8243 which might be more popular (easier to get retail).

If you dont know what I'm talking about but might know of somthing similar to ...

to reply to the above - update

I already have guessed there might be 1 or 2 things that are incorrect in the above post

hmm well it seams that parallel standards have changed a fair amount like 3 or 4 times over the years..

1. I think I will use the new pinout called EPP as this is designed for data transfer to other ...

Parallel port standards!

well I was looking up parallel standards on "how stuff works"

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/parallel-port1.htm

hmm so I guess I decided which format I wish to use as pc's these days appear to support all the new ones!

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/parallel-port2.htm

I wish to make ...
