Re: So, Forth

Chips can be emulated by the Prop as Jac Goudsmit did with the L-Star (which I have BTW) and as demonstrated by the SIDCOG object. So a lot of things could be built in software without requiring physical hardware changes.

I/O could be moved at will. ROMS could be swapped in seconds or less. The ...

Re: So, Forth

Well I guess how I "get" Forth is just a better understanding of what level the language sits at, and how it works. I read a little bit about threaded interpretive languages and that helped me see how Forth kind of has one foot in the hardware and one foot in a higher level language. I marvel though ...

So, Forth

I had a HES Forth cartridge for my C64. I played around with it but really didn't see the point, and oh my was that syntax confusing. I really didn't understand Forth.

Fast forward to the past year (30+ years) and I have been playing a lot with a Parallax Propeller and a 6502. I really like the ...

Re: L-Star: 65C02 controlled by a Propeller

Set the jumpers, reloaded everything, and up popped the Woz monitor! I admit not recognizing it at first due to its minimal nature ;) The 6502 is running for sure now. I think it was before too - I saw the "\" prompt among all the other characters but didn't recognize it for what it was. Now to find ...

Re: L-Star: 65C02 controlled by a Propeller

Hopefully it doesn't keep you from playing with it, and discovering stuff (I'm taking notes to improve my documentation). And congratulations on posting the first ever picture of L-Star that was not taken by me :-)

Great! I'm glad the fix is that easy. No problem - I figured it was ...

Re: L-Star: 65C02 controlled by a Propeller

Got my L-Star+ built. It went together easily in one sitting. I loaded the Apple 1 SRAM firmware using the propeller tool. On power up, the Propeller is fine, and I get the welcome message and the ROM size message. The computer recognizes the keyboard space bar properly and the video works fine on ...

Re: 65816 BE pin (or...)

No, I didn't take it that way at all Jeff. I realize that the setup introduces all kinds of uncertainty into the circuit. I'm contemplating moving the '816 onto its own breadboard, getting it working, and then merging the two. At least that way I'll be moving from a known quantity.

Re: 65816 BE pin (or...)

Thanks for the reply Jeff -

I realize that I am not doing a good job of documenting this - I don't have a schematic drawn yet, just the scribbles in my notebook. I will step through the R/W logic again and double check what's happening there. That's why I posted like this - my eyes were crossing ...

Re: 65816 BE pin (or...)

I have the '816 sort of running on the breadboard. The traces above from bottom to top are:

Clock, 1 Mhz (blue)
/CE (pink)
/WE (Yellow)
/OE (Cyan)

Using an Alliance 512k SRAM, only wired to the first 64k. The read/write logic is from BDD's diagram on POC V1 using a 74HC00 and '04. (qualified by ...

Re: 65816 BE pin (or...)

We were discussing BE just a couple of days ago! Check out the last half-dozen posts in this thread.

Sounds like an interesting project -- keep us posted, please. :)

Yes! That discussion was just what I needed. Of course have not searched since then.

Thanks BDD also. Clear info as usual.

65816 BE pin (or...)

I have read the 65816 data sheet several times and searched here and the across the web, and I am still fuzzy on the usage of the BE pin on the 65816. The datasheet says (I think) it allows an input to enable/disable the "address and data buffers" . I'm not sure what this means. What happens to ...

Buffers and latches... when and how do I use them?

I'm still unclear on exactly when to use a buffer or a latch, or a transceiver in a typical 6502 design. I don't really understand the difference between a buffer or latch, or how they work. Can some of you smart experienced guys give a rookie a primer?

Re: Introduce yourself

Hi all. I'm not quite sure how to introduce myself as I am probably one of the most novice electronics hobbyists on here. I'm all self taught so far as electronics are concerned so I'm usually behind the curve when reading most topics. I did make my living for quite a few years as a network engineer ...
