Re: Retro SYM

After referring this matter to House Harris Legal Department and lengthy deliberations of that most august body, the answer has come back....Go Go Go with the project.

Re: Symbiosys, a disk operating system for SYM-1

Just thought I might let people know I still live, having moved house to a new House Harris. Must get the SYM development system out of storage and see if it still works.

Re: Retro SYM

This is brilliant Andy, will this allow plugging in the NVram devices needed for my DOS to run? That should eliminate instabilities introduced with the wired memory expansions. I'm going to want one of these when they are ready to distribute.

Re: Symbiosys, a disk operating system for SYM-1

That's very handy, I was wondering about how such a thing would be done for porting purposes.

Re: Symbiosys, a disk operating system for SYM-1

I have made the source code for Symbiosys avaliable now on the repository. There is also the latest release version of the Symbiosys kernel binary which should be suitable for the interface hardware as described earlier in this forum.

Re: Symbiosys, a disk operating system for SYM-1

I have got the Sym development system running again and begun preparing the sources for release. But before the source itself I will release this patch for RAE to give it access to the disk services of symbiosys. It is a standard RAE disk patch to enable the LO, EN and DC commands, I used the patch ...

Re: Symbiosys, a disk operating system for SYM-1

Site is operating again then, praise backups.

I must do some more work on this operating system, it has been a difficult past six months and it seemed my patent House Harris random wiring was making my Sym1 crash regularly in the summer heat.

I think maybe I should release the source code.

There's a lot in what you say, yes there is memory to be reclaimed from VIA's allocation on the sym. I can see some definite advantages to the paradigm you suggest and it would be no problem to compile the symbiosys kernel to accommodate it. Only trouble is it would break the whole thing for use on ...

I see yes that would do it. So now we can exchange software in papertape format, this is great. Anything could happen now.
