There is always the 4511 decoder-driver IC. This is a CMOS chip, but should suffice.

Really though, I'd look at using a 6551 (not everyone’s favourite) or 2651 ACIA (asynchronous communications interface adapter) as a way to hook the thing up to a PC as your terminal. That way you can develop and ...

For the display you could use HP 5082-7340 or the like. Or even the newer ATMega8 (http://www.avrfreaks.net/modules/FreaksFiles/files/3756/M8DualHexDisplayDriver.pdf)

Of course, the ATMega8 is based on an AVR chip that is light-years ahead of the 6502, but that's beside the point.

I used to use a ...

What are the RHD LHD designations on the displays mean?

Right hand display and left hand display? If so, what does that mean?

Some say right angle. Is this another way to say the same thing?

Spinnaker:

Oh, please don't go the PIC route! They are soul-less products of modern engineering. There is no fun or enjoyment to be had using them. They are too easy and work too well.

Stick with the NMOS 6502. Seriously. I get that this is a hobby, right? Then there will be little fun is ...

Circuit Simulator?

There seem to be plenty of simulator / emulators out there for the 6502. But all of the programs I have found mimic a complete 6502 computer.

Are there an circuit simulators that allow me to build a 6502 based computer from the chip up? Add my own encoding. decoding, i/o etc. etc. ?

If so can ...

I'm not familiar with it, but Tek is a major player in the industry and has a good reputation. Is it analog only or DSO? (Should be a good asset to your workbench either way.) At my last place of work, I used a Philips DSO with IEEE-488 so the computer could not only download waveforms but also ...

Yes ebay. The seller seems to know what he is selling. Sounds like he is in the electronics business or hobby.

Glad you listen to your "elders." :D Of course, I really am an elder and enjoying my meager social security check, as well government health care rationing. I may be on a death-list somewhere, but given the general inefficiency of anything run by the government, it'll be years before they finally ...

I am back to an oscope I guess.

How fast? Yeah I know as fast as you can afford. Well what about 200MHZ?

I don't think it is a question of what I need. More of a question of what I want.

I feel that a logic analyzer will help me to understand what is going on inside my project.

So maybe I should restate my question. If I was to buy a logic analyzer then which one?

I am leaning toward this one.

Which Logic Analyzer

I am just starting to get back into the hobby. I want to buy a logic anayzer.

At the top of my list is this one.

A bit pricey for me but it is so full of features, it is hard to beat.

And then there is there are these two:

I guess with the simple method, it is not so simple either. You need to know how much time has passed. The only way I can think of is to execute a loop, know how many instructions are in the loop and how long it takes to complete an instruction. Is there another way?

I am wondering if I should get ...

Wow that is like $45 for what I need. Really cool looking keypads but that might have to wait. I might just use a regular 16 button keypad and label them myself.

I could probably go with something like this

or the one you pointed out ...

Thanks you two.

GARTHWILSON,

Where can I find Grayhill 87 series? Are they expensive? Sounds like what I am looking for.

I do want to keep things really simple. I always liked the KIM so I was thinking of emulating one of those.

I don't care about speed or power consumption. I have a bunch of ...

First 6502 project

I first fell in love with computers with the KIM, I then moved on to the Commodore PET. I used both of these computers in tech school.

Once I started working, I purchased a PET as my first computer. I then moved on to the Atari 800. I sold the PET to get the cash to purchase the Atari. I really ...
