AIM-65 Display

I have an AIM-65 I'm trying to restore. One of the 4 character displays is not working. I've switched it around and am sure it's the display module that's bad. It's a DL1416A, according to the schematics. Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement?

Also, a good source for the thermal paper would be appreciated... in several places, the documents note that special non-abrasive paper is required... normal thermal paper is too abrasive and will wear out the print head. I have one roll of the original paper - it prints in blue vs. black!!

thanks!

I have not seen the aim-65 displays but if they are LED 7 Segment then you could use any comman anode or cathode (choose correct type to match original) displays but you will probably have to rewire the connections for the common and a-g segments to match the originals

They're at least 16-segment IIRC.

Oh I see, are they led or is it possibly a multi digit floresent digit display ? (will be a lot harder to find a replacement)

They are LED. I found a datasheet and one online parts house that has 6 in stock, but they won't sell to the public, only a business that can send a P.O. Unfortunately, I cannot use my place of work to buy them.

could you post a link to the datasheet or the display part number so I can take a look as I may be able to find a substitute that is available retail

I found these 8 digit led starburst bubble displays but they are probably the wrong type as I have never seen the aim-65

try doing a google search for led displays using the keyword starburst you may get lucky

if you are unable to find a supplier then you could replace the whole display line using the displays above as at only £2.67 for 8 digits it would be inexpensive but a bit of work

good luck

I have already started looking at a full replacement. I am considering a 20 char LCD module or a 20 character LED dot matrix display. Both will require some custom interfacing.

Thanks for your input!!

I have a bunch of those displays. We use to built the Aim into a product we produced. I wish I still had an Aim. All I have now is some Toshiba cmos static rams we substituted to drop the power consumption down. May have the old Fourth compiler too.

Let me know if you still need a display
