I think the long-term solution will be some kind of rate limiting where an IP address will be redirected to archive.org if it exceeds some reasonable number of downloads within a time period.
I struggled with this on my own sites. Eventually I've started putting document PDFs into Gopher, which don't seem to be crawled as much.

I've been trying to download
http://archive.6502.org/datasheets/mos_ ... ndated.pdf which seems to point to internet archive.
Does anyone know if there is another mirror, as internet archive has been down for a few days now. They had a security incident and are still currently experiencing massive DDoS attacks.

I just tried the above link. It timed out. Looks as though the Internet monkeys must’ve gotten out of their cages again.

The above sites all seem to be slow-loading and it appears DNS is being sluggish. I noticed this visiting some other sites unrelated to 6502.org before coming here. One of my office servers, which is set up as a caching nameserver for our network, has logged some time-outs when contacting the two root DNS servers that I use as the source for feeding the local cache. It’s starting to look like some sort of DoS nonsense is going on.

I would think there are good odds that many people are trying to take local copies of various archive collections. (None of this speculation helps, of course - I provided some links which I believe will be useful.)

The internet archive is experiencing DDOS, user data breach, and the like. It's always good to have your own copies and not solely rely on centralized ones.

I've recently noticed that the links in the datasheet archive section of 6502.org seem to point to the internet archiv web.archive.org.
are now served directly from 6502.org again. Some other documents are still being served from public mirrors but will return to the site.
It's also now possible to download the entire archive from the public mirrors to your local machine. See our
