Looks like they have just about everything except the 65C51, which is no big loss. :) Plus the prices are reasonable. My company has had a net 30 account with Jameco since 1990 and has never been disappointed in any way.

BTW, to anyone contemplating a new PCB design around the WDC parts, I highly recommend using the PLCC44 packages instead of DIP. It doesn't seem like it at first, but the PLCC44 layout uses only about 60 percent of the board real estate used with the DIP packages. Also, trace lengths can be substantially shorter with the PLCC44 parts, which helps to keep a lid on stray capacitance and other ill effects. When I started laying out the PCB for my POC unit I tried both DIP40 and PLCC44 for the MPU. There was no contest.

Now, if you are planning to do a wire-wrap layout, PLCC will be more challenging, but not as bad as you might think. The socket's pin grid is still on 0.100 centers, even though the contact spacing on the chip package is 50 mil. The only thing that might give you pause is keeping the pin numbers straight.

BTW, message to Garth. Can we make this topic sticky, since the question on where to get WDC parts regularly comes up?

BDD, I think I will start a new one so newcomers can find all the info in the first post without reading through a longish thread. I will keep editing that first post as new info becomes available. PM me with any info you would like it to contain. And yes, it will be sticky.

I did the same under Mouser and they came up as well:

Jameco's prices are better.

OFF-TOPIC RANT: Hopefully Jameco doesn't screw you like Mouser does with shipping... Multiple times I have ordered x pieces of an item. I get charged shipping for x-1, then get RE-CHARGED shipping for the final piece. Happened twice now, no warning except when I look at the bank account. I don't use them.

E_E, when you order, just make sure everything is in stock, and at the same place, and say something like, "'cuz I don't want to pay for multiple shippings," and then even if they have to ship from more than one place or delay shipping of parts that aren't in stock yet, they'll probably say, "I'll make sure you don't have to pay more than once." They'll be pretty accommodating. If it's not all in stock but soon will be, you might say something like, "Please wait until they're all in, then ship it all at once. Please don't do partials"

Mouser's policy is to not charge shipping on the first part of a back order. However, they will charge on succeeding back orders. If you order online ascertain all items are in stock in the quantities you require.

You need to be reasonable about it. They aren't screwing you. Shipping costs have become a significant issue for distributors like Mouser, Digi-Key, Jameco, etc. They can't give it away like they used to in years past.

Continued OFF-TOPIC RANT: Both times I've recently used them, parts were in stock, no backorder. From what I gathered from the packing list, they came from different locations. I was not notified, but I was charged BOTH times I've used them. Noone's perfect, but I've seen a pattern now. Maybe best to take Garth's advice and annotate the order as far as shipping concerns. I don't mean to trash any company, but in my dealings with them I was left with a bad taste. I wish I was told the $2 part was on backorder instead of paying another $15 shipping for 1 single $2 item.

Re. multiple shippings:
Amazon UK is funny this way.. I've always tried to order books together that were all in stock, but more often than not Amazon will still split into several shippings. The last time I ordered they sent two books right away, then another couple of books, and a week later the remaining book. "Worst" of all, it was free shipping.. because my total order was above 25 pounds. I don't know why they do it this way, it must cost them. They just seem to be eager to get me the books as fast as possible. Well, at least they'll get my continued business! :-)

(They're pretty short on 65xx components though..)
