I think it's just the white rectangle painted on the silk-screen layer. It is kinda confusing though.

Thats an old photo of the first revision of the board (like the one I have). If you look at the photo for the XST-3S1000
http://www.xess.com/prods/prod039.php (FPGA board + extender board) the capacitors on the board have changed and it looks like a BGA version of the FPGA chip.

Yes, I thought I saw pins, but it was the silkscreen. It is a BGA package.

Today I was on the can, and like I always do, I peruse through my old digikey catalog. I usually look at the company index and search for their products.
Been looking at Freescale recently, as I've always wanted to get into mastering a 68020, but today came across an 8 bit
USB controller from them. I don't think I'll ever have the lifespan to "master" the 68020, but it's good to dream. And dreaming leads to good things...
Will have to check further into the datasheet. It's quite lengthy like the Cypress 16 bit USB controller I've previously mentioned on this thread.
But, this one appears to have a
true 8 bit interface.

pointed out in his post, on Apr 22, 2010, another chip that he uses for USB made by Cypress called the
SL811HS.
It's a 48-pin QFP for USB only, not the usual USB+multifunction IC's I've found so far, and it too has a simple 8-bit interface.
