My venerable Fluke 8024B bit the dust today. Bought it in 1983 and it was a major purchase for me then, but I did get nearly 40 years out of it. Not bad.

It just lost it's mind .. random stuff on teh display .. not measuring anything. I took it apart and removed the processor from it's socket, cleaned it and re-seated it and used some Deoxit on the switch blocks, but no luck.

Interesting though, a couple years before I bought the Fluke I picked up a Micronta Digital Multimeter (22-198) and it is still going strong after over 40 years. I originally paid nearly a weeks pay for the Fluke (IIRC) because my buddies at the time were making fun of my Micronta.

I also still have my analog Micronta 22-210 which I got for a bargain price at a RS that was closing/moving.. That's a bit newer than the Fluke but it's still working perfectly just like the 22-198. I don't think both of them together were 1/4 of what the Fluke cost.

Anyway, sad to see the Fluke go.

I have a Micronta from the 1970s that is still functional. They just don’t make ’em like they used to.

I accidentally left my Fluke under the hood of a customer's Corvette and it was never seen again, at least according to the customer we called to ask if he could check for me.

Uh-huh. It was never seen again by you. The Corvette’s owner knows exactly where it ended up.

I like Fluke gear, they make great stuff. I still have my (IBM issued) 8060A DMM from 1979 which is still used frequently. It even survived a massive voltage surge from a Microwave oven back in the 80's (magnetron supply switched on), which literally blew the MOVs to pieces (and popped the fuse). I replaced everything and it still works and it's calibration is almost dead-on to my newer Fluke meters. I just hope the new ones hold up like the old ones... time will tell.

To Mike B., very sorry that a vette ate yours... that hurts!
