A really random question...

Does anyone know what these little gold edge connectors are called? Or better yet if there is a KiCad footprint for them?

I really like them because they can be soldered surface-mount or with pin-headers.

I'm totally stealing this design from the Raspberry Pico for my own projects.

These are called castellated holes. I don't believe that design (with both the pin header hole and the soldering hole) is available in KiCad but it should be pretty easy to make. Just put a hole centered on your edge cut. Here is an example using a pin header footprint (of course the silkscreen needs to be changed etc)

JLCPCB has instructions on how to make them https://jlcpcb.com/quote/pcbOrderFaq/Ca ... ed%20holes

Here is another quick example that matches the Pi, using tracks to connect the holes, if you don't want to make your own prettier footprint

Also, not all PCB houses can do castellated holes. It's a good idea to check with your favorite PCB producer before committing to the design.

Thanks again! I've mailed CIRCUITBOARD, the guys who do my PCB manufacturing and who are fortunately just up the road from me.

But seriously, YOU NEED TO VISIT THEIR WEBSITE. IT'S THE BEST WEBSITE IN THE WORLD! Well, not really. In fact I've got no idea how they get business. And also, given the area, it's 50/50 whether I'll get a PCB or end up becoming an impromptu organ donor. Still, they're cheap and make excellent PCBs.

Sounds like living in some major US cities, becoming an impromptu organ donor, that is.

So... my sister, who I love dearly, lived in the states for a few years and once said: "Andrew, I'm worried about you in Johannesburg with all the crime. I think you should move to Boston." I don't know how I was supposed to respond to that  .
