I've used teamviewer.

I've used VNC. Heck, I've written a VNC server, back in the day - for Classic MacOS. That took some doing.

VNC's main limitation is weak security features. You can mitigate that by running it over SSH and permitting access only from localhost. But that does reduce the convenience factor.
