Sorry, this is a little OT but I just got a TRS-80 Model 1 and when looking inside, I see 8 chips that are MCM6616L6.

When searching for those chips, I cannot find much of anything. Especially a datasheet.

I assume the 6616 section means 16 Kb. As in, 16,384 bits (2 KB). But that doesn't sound right because I believe all TRS-80's had at least 4 KB.

I've never claimed to understand how DRAM works.

Also, notice the date code! I think these are literally the oldest electronic components I have. It's certainly the oldest computer I have (7937).

They are '4116' DRAM chips: 16Kx1, so 16KB in total.

And, yeah...dur. I sometimes forget that the byte is "spread out" across the 8 chips. SRAM is so much easier to understand. lol
