All:

I found a bunch of keyboard switches at Goldmine Electronics (10/$1) and I plan on building an external keyboard for my KIM.

Since I have the ability to rearrange the keyboard, I'm soliciting opinions on arrangement. I'm thinking as follows, which is more like a computer keypad:

Code:

  GO ST RS PC
      F  E  D
  7   8  9  C
  4   5  6  B
  1   2  3  A
  AD  0 DA  +

Opinions?

You know, with one or two external 1-of-8 decoders, such as the 74138, you can support up to 32 or 64 keys too (8*4 or 16*4). This would enable you to provide a more complete keyboard layout if you wanted.
