I recently made a couple parts order from Mouser (my usual source). Back in November part of an order was for qty 4 913-AS6C62256A-70PCN. These are Alliance 32KBx8 Static RAM in 28-pin DIP format. I finished another SBC board the other day and grabbed the next chip, put it in and did some initial tests. Turns out it's a bad chip! Memory location offset $61F6 is stuck with $F6 in memory... it can't be changed. The rest of the chip is okay, but it's a no-go for the SBC.

My most recent Mouser order included a universal wall-wart power supply. It has multiple slide-on power plugs for various countries. Part number is 418-TRG10R05036E03VI. Unfortunately somebody either forgot to include ALL of the slide-on power plugs or they got pinched somewhere along the line. So I have a lovely supply that's useless so far.

I'm working with Mouser to get these issues sorted out, hopefully it will be somewhat painless, we'll see. I'm now starting to test parts that I get in quickly.... as I ordered a FTDI UB-232R over a year ago. I finally got around to trying to use it for some prototype work and discovered it's a dead adapter. As the time from order/receive to attempted use was over a year, there's nothing I can do about it, so that turned out to be wasted $$. Wondering if anyone else has had any similar experiences with new defective parts lately. Ah... the global economy

I could say the same thing about my iPhone (or even my Android tablets). Nothing works on them. Texting app cuts off the last 3-4 lines all the time and I can't read it...requiring me to foce-quit the app. WiFi always forgetting the password....always forcing me to upgrade to the newest OS which means my phone and tablets get progressively slower, etc.

The whole damn thing is defective if you ask me.

I've occasionally run into bad product that I've gotten through Mouser. I've never had any trouble obtaining a satisfactory resolution.

I ordered my first W65C02s from Mouser. They wouldn't deliver because export restrictions. Both Mouser and WDC worked together quickly to resolve the issue and the parts were delivered with almost no delay.

Export restrictions? Where are you located?

I was in New Zealand at the time. Perhaps they have a white list of approved destinations that they update over time?

I, too, got some flak about export restrictions, and I'm located in Canada. That was roughly five years ago -- I don't recall exactly. At issue were some 65xx chips from Mouser.

Yeah, export restrictions.. I seemed to get that every time I ordered something from DigiKey. To Norway. After ordering they always came back with a request for me to fill in a form where I stated what I would be doing with the parts. And this was stuff like ez80 and other decidely low-tech components.

(I've since stopped ordering from DigiKey due to shipping costs)

I had the same thing back in 2014. I had a W65C134 chip as part of an order with Mouser. They requested that I fill out a "customer end user certificate" and return it. It wasn't worth the aggravation so I cancelled that part from the order. I can only guess that as the W65C134 contains a small 4KB Monitor that they considered that as software that might end up being exported. At least it was only a couple emails to cancel that line item from the order.

I had to fill it out once when I bought a 65C02 from Mouser in the US. Do you think there is some type of old cruise missile or something that uses a 6502 that causes it to get flagged?

I never understood requirements like that. Like when websites ask people to verify their age. I mean, give me a break.

Like the person is going to say:

"I plan on using the EZ80 to control my nuclear warhead on board my ICBM."
