It's exciting and feels good, doesn't it? Hopefully it will pass all the testing.

What's an additional VIA among friends, anyhow?

"hope" is an understatement !

Had good fun soldering it all though.

Next task: Finish my ROM Programmer.
Then: Write software (collary: have to figure out how WDC's assembler works - its unnecessarily complicated)
Finally: Test things!

That PCB looks nice...

Congratulations, IT WORKS ! :)

BTW: just out of curiousity: at which CPU clock frequency it stops working ? ;)

It works on both 1 and 2 MHz; I've not tried hooking it up to a faster external clock.

I should probably qualify my statement that I've got it running an extremely simply test program at the moment, which by no means exercises all features (in particular, the UART and Cartridge ROMs remain untested) - but the fact my simple test program runs at all, and produces the expected output, is an extreme win as that demonstrates most core aspects of the circuit are functioning - processor, buses, VIA, BIOS ROM, RAM, glue logic, reset, power, etc.

Just as follow up on this, I've just had my results.

For the project I got a mark of 80% - given that they rarely, if ever, award >80% marks for projects, that's basically their way of saying we're thoroughly impressed.

For my degree, I got a mark of 83.9%, firmly in First territory.

I have also won an award for Most Outstanding Project by a Third Year CSE Student.

---

I want to thank you all profusely for your help, it probably would never have even worked without your input (and I acknowledged your help in my final report).

I wish you all well in your future endeavours, and hopefully from time to time you might condescend to help me with a few of mine

Well, they just don't want you to get over-confident or get a big head. :D
