Now that I've fixed my KIM-1, I've found a use for it, other than playing games.
In making the 6530 to 6532 adapter, I've needed to have PALs blown.
I've had a friend blow these but it has been inconvenient for him and me.
I'd watched ebay for a low cost way to blow PALs. I found a module for PALs
for some older programmer.
Other than control and power supply, it looks to have all I need.
The board had a 4265 chip as the input. It was a chip for a 4040!!
I have enough parts to create a 4040 system to run it but not a lot of time
to devote to it, now.
Next the thought of using an Arduino came to mind. Not too bad but just
not exciting. I've done several Arduino projects but for other purposes.
As I was stepping over the box I'd put the KIM-1 in, it hit me. I could use
the KIM-1.
I'd remove the 4265 and put it in my 4004/4040 project box to save for some
other project.
I drew up a quick schematic and it looks like I could make the needed interface
with two 74LS244s and one 74LS10.
Making use of the KIM-1 for such will be really cool.

Would you please so kind and explain what these chips (4004, 4040, 4265) are?

To me the only 4004 I know is the old Intel one, surely not what you are talking about.
Same I assume for the 4040, I knew a CMOS 12 (or 14?) stage binary counter.
4265 - never heard.

I am curious: if you plan to use these parts for building a PAL burner - did you have access to the algorithms for the ATMEL GAL types? Somehow they seem to be different from older Lattice GALs.

These are all Intel chips.
The 4004 you know.
The 4040 was bus compatible with the 4004 but had enhancement,
not the CMOS 4040, you know.
The 4265 was a programmable I/O. In this configuration it provided
an 8 bit output port, two bit address, one write strobe, one read strobe
and an 4 bit read port.
Look up MCS40 for more information.
I plan to use real PALs rather than GALs. It is easier to get these
in 20 pin dips and cheaper.
I needed 20 dips to fit in my application.

Great! Getting a i4004 back "on air" :D

So you are going to use the KIM to burn old PALs. OK, if you have access to some. I remember to use 32x8 PROMs for decoding purpose. They were easier to burn, draw less current but somewhat slower.
