The specifications look good, but I've never heard of the brand. Will it last? Its performance is waaaaaay better than my two old 20MHz CRT 'scopes on my workbench. One of them needs the rotary switches sprayed with contact cleaner, but otherwise the two oscilloscopes work like new, 30 years after manufacture.

A lot is made of the thinness aspect, which, when you have a lot of workbench equipment that you want to stack, does not work out so well. I'd have to build shelves to put the instruments one above another. I suppose the CRT and accompanying electronics of the deep 'scopes of yore is going the way of the CRT monitor though.

What's an additional VIA among friends, anyhow?

I did see a review of this on youtube and a point was made about how light and thin the unit was... and that it didn't always stay in place on the bench when you need it to.

What do you normally use for measuring ~10MHz? Would you purchase a 100MHz scope to do this? From what I've read (including on this forum) you need at least a Speed x 10 (10x10=100).

If you really had to get an accurate representation of a 10MHz square wave and measure nanosecond delays, then yes, you'd need at least a 100MHz 'scope. After you get a good feel for how circuits (inductances, transmission lines, stray capacitance, etc.) behave, you can stray above your equipment's capabilities and still keep things working well.

However, when I was getting started in this stuff, some engineering students went into digital to avoid the heavier math of analog; but as speeds increased, digital became the worst form of analog—RF and microwave! I worked in UHF power transistor applications engineering in the mid 1980's, and can tell you most electronics enthusiasts have absolutely no idea what goes on there. What may be surprising is that my understanding of high-frequency behavior has increased dramatically from working in digital and even switch-mode power supplies where the rise times are not particularly impressive compared to digital but the di/dt's are astronomical.

How is the DS1074Z for your price range?
http://www.rigol-uk.co.uk/Rigol-DS1074Z ... QT-ro6UcYM

This is the model I have and it's quite good, 70Mhz but can be upgraded to 100Mhz with a software key (though you can't get the key from Rigol, you need a keygen)

You can also purchase software upgrades to add RS232,I2C and SPI Decoding/Triggering

FWIW, The original ad you linked to indicated that the scope came with 2 100mHz probes.

AFAIK, all new Owon/Rigol/TEK/Uni-T/etc... scopes come with probes.
