Looking at the comments on there reminded me why I stopped reading Hack-a-day. I stopped posting my projects on there because you'd get so many negative and uninformed comments from people who didn't know what they were talking about. It always amazed me the number of people on there who think a project is a waste of time but would still take the time to tell everyone so.

I find this (and a very few other) forums much more encouraging and positive.

Anyone used that TL866CS mentioned?

Unfortunately, that sort of crass behavior isn't at all unique to Hack-a-day. I see examples of it all over the 'Net.

You can draw some solace from the fact that most of the individuals who are writing uninformed criticism have never actually accomplished anything of value in the area in which they profess to be knowledgable. They criticize so they can appear to be wise in the eyes of other uninformed readers. At least around here, if someone says something negative about a design they are likely to have some basis from which to do so.

The more specialised the topic the better the forum I find. I like posting here, if someone here tells me I am an idiot I'll believe them and fix it!

Am busy doing idiotic things in car building mode but will be back to doing idiotic things in computer building mode soon. I need to look at getting a real PCB for my computer made. Then I can start adding some IO modules to it. I have a little POS printer here I would like to hook to it as well as some provision to do general IO as one of the Usborne books I want to review is all about doing that. Eventually I will end up rebuilding the little robot I first built 25 years ago!

I do wonder what that other EPROM burner is like. I have an earlier parallel Willem type (3.5?) and it took lots of fiddling to get it working well. I had to hardware mode it with a relay to make sure it was switching the full programming voltage in the end. A friend bought a more modern one recently and even that took a lot of messing about to get it working.
