Have been looking at some stock quantities on Mouser for the new chips and they have sold some. Anyone here on the forum picked some up and got them working? WDC have gone silent on trying to check out if there are some problems. I have a handful of new chips that flat don't work as replacements for older 6551 chips and no real options. Just wondering if anyone else has had any luck.

You may need to prod WDC on this. They usually do their best to ferret out problems.

Well, they responded initially and said they were going to try and test on one of their new SXB boards. I sent them more detail obtained via a logic analyzer, plus sent them schematics and code being used to drive the chip. I even offered to send them a couple chips and one of my board sets to test with, but no reply since... and I've prodded with an additional email since then... dead silence. Maybe it's me or my hardware design, but it works with every other 6551 I have, but not a single WDC chip. So I can't rule out that a problem in the WDC chips exist. I was hoping that some other forum member might have gotten some chips and had some success.

Well, just checked Mouser and their entire stock of PDIP 65C51 are gone. Either somebody bought the lot (pretty sure it was over 100 pieces) or they were pulled. No idea which, so will send them an email inquiry.

I called my rep there (we have a commercial account) and she said lead time of two weeks. Evidently the entire stock was purchased by someone, as she said there was no indication that they were pulled and returned.

The PLCC ones are readily available. If you can use it, the PLCC package makes for a tighter board layout.
