I know this is a 6502 forum, but my friend is into 6800's. In GARTHWILSON's primer it shows the construction of a reset circuit. Would this circuit also work on a 6800. Would it damage the processor or not work

I haven't built anything with a 6800, but looking at the data book, I don't see any real difference between the RST\ inputs of that and the 6502, so I don't anticipate any problems applying the same reset circuit.

What's an additional VIA among friends, anyhow?

A cursory look at the 6800 suggests that Garth is right. Incidentally, the MC6850 UART, which has often been used in 6502 systems in place of the 6551, doesn't have a /RESET input. There's a programmed (i.e., software) reset, but no hardware equivalent.

Another incidentally: this question really should be in the hardware section. :D
