architecture is basically a physical Z80 and FPGA for logic. Daryl, hope this might throw ideas towards SBC-4 using an 816 or 832 and an FPGA?

That's a nice board, Tony. I don't think I will be developing any more SBC boards and I have not had time to devote to learning FPGA development.

Been spending most of my free time working on interfaces for the 65 family, such as the 65SPI and the monochrome graphics generator. I want to create a sound generator next, and after that, I'm not sure where I will go.

Darryl, am liking the ELM sound generator. Cheap as heck on the build and the code may be portable to other AVR chips. I will be using 2 of these on my pinball project with some small changes. I wrote down some notes on using an 8 bit port to control it and mode it for looping or non looping via 2 of the lines being control lines.

http://elm-chan.org/works/sd20p/report.html

If I remember my notes before I dig them out, my changes would be:
8 bit port set as follows:
D0-D3 data nibble for number
D4
D5 Send Data Command
D6 D7 Mode control

5 6 7
0 0 0 Quiescent
0 0 1 Play non looping sound
0 1 0 Play looping sound
0 1 1 Stop sound aka reset
1 0 0 Low nibble of sound# on D0-D3
1 0 1 Hi nibble of sound# on D0-D3

Or something like that...
