While I was poking around today I noticed that both Mouser, Digikey and Amazon have Western Design Center's W65C02SXB SBC priced at $65.02.

I wonder if one did it first and the rest matched the price or if it's was WDC's idea... File under "I see what you did there.."

I was going to buy some W65C816 for a new project and I noticed the price went from $6.95 early this year to $12.39 now. Looking at W65C02, the price went from $5.95 to $10.75. Interesting to see price changed even for retro components.

The product didn't change, but the dollar did? There are many trillions more dollars floating around in the ether than there were a couple of years ago. I'm not passing judgment on the reasoning, just stating a possible cause.

It's the "65.02" price that was the original point. Did no one really get it? Or did the discussion just veer into a different topic?

FWIW, WDC has the same price for this board as well another similar one, so I think they must have decided to have fun with the pricing, and must not allow for discounting, so everyone else has the same price.

Guilty as charged! Although $65.02 seems higher than I've remembered for that board.

The play on numbers is too obvious, so I thought the point was that it was a distraction intended to justify a price increase.

The amazon price has been $65.02 since the fall of 2019...

I found an old WDC newsletter/e-mail from September 2019 announcing the new pricing. "Board prices now range from $18.16 to $68.16"

I imagine $658.16 might not have been too palatable for the W65C816SXB, but $68.16 has most of the right numbers. I seem to rememeber though, that prior to that that particular board has been somewhat more than the new price.

The prices are quite a bit less than they were some years ago. I bought both the 65C02 and 65C816 SXBs back in December 2016 when they had a 20% sale on them. Order was fulfilled via Amazon and the total was $310.40 for the pair.

At amazon, the price was $189 before being dropped to $65.02 in 2019... However, I fully expect to see $658.16 before I die - at the rate we are going.

I thought 65.02 was a pretty clever price. It is now hard to imagine paying $189 for these as they were in the past.
CPU at $6, Two VIAs at $6 each, one PIA at $6 and one ACIA at $5 plus memory, glue logic, pre-assembled and ready to go - I thought $65 each was a pretty good price.

W65C265QBX -- $18.16 ("Mensch" board)

I believe Intel discontinued the MAX10 FPGA series used on the MyMensh W65Cx65 dev boards so I have no plans to stock those.

List pricing for the following ICs (the popular ones for me) is in the $6 range: W65C02S6TPG-14, W65C21N6TPG-14, W65C22N6TPG-14
W65C816's would be about a buck higher.
There has been a little bit of wiggling around on the price on these from vendor to vendor but usually no more than the range of about 50c each...until whatever Mouser started doing with prices.

WDC has a MAP pricing policy so everybody is pretty much inline with the prices and keeps the big resellers such as Mouser from undercutting us smaller sellers. They pretty much set the pricing that most people use. Unfortunately, at MAP, there is very little profit margin so these are often the 'price leader' parts.
There has been no price increase this year so far and they recently said they have no plans to change pricing in immediate future. But, that can change quickly. WDC has stated some of the parts are slow to being restocked.

They're on their site, for sale, at https://wdc65xx.com/shop/ . Also, communication with Bill Mensch and David Gray just last week touched on them, and there was no hint of any plans to discontinue them.

There was a DMSMS issued about a month ago for various Intel MAX series FPGAs... I'll have to go see which parts were on it.
