There's a Forth wiki at http://www.forthwiki.com/tiki-index.php but there doesn't seem to be much there yet.

Many Forth-related wikis have been created. I'm not at all sure why; there's really nothing to say about the language that isn't already said in other venues.

It seems to me like these authors attempt to encourage forum-like collaboration. However, wikis are woefully ill-suited for this task. A phpBB-like forum seems far better suited for that task. Note the lack of 6502-related wikis (only one exists to my knowledge, started from a user here) versus the proliferation of NES, SNES, Commodore, etc. related fora, including the 6502.org site, all of which are comparatively hopping.

Wikis excel at cataloging. The world's first wiki, and for the longest time the most famous, is the Portland Pattern Repository wiki. This wiki saw the development of, and cataloging of, relevant patterns not only for software design, but also in formulating development methodologies such as extreme programming, Scrum, etc. Today, it's a battleground between OO and relational programming techniques, and I'm sure it'll move on to a different topic in another 10 years still. But, the wiki continues to serve as a repository of pattern or pattern-like concepts and ideas.

So, folks should probably continue to use ForthFreak for their Forth-related cataloging needs. I'm not sure what purpose this new wiki serves, if any at all.

Archive.org has the page archived at https://web.archive.org/web/20140619184 ... Forth.html but if you click on the download choices at the bottom, they just say they don't have those archived.

Don't apologize for bringing up old topics though. Building on the old one has these advantages:

  • The forum is not cluttered with repeat topics.
  • Time is not wasted re-stating things that were stated in the old topic.
  • People who posted in the old topic get an email alerting them to the fact that there's a new reply.

You did the right thing. Hopefully, from the last point above, someone (like maybe kc5tja) will jump in and tell us if there's an archive available somewhere, even if they don't regularly visit the forum anymore.

Thanks, didn't find the cd, but it has all the .pdf's that I imagine were on the cd. Garth was right. It wasn't worth keeping around.
