Concerning harddrives, that they are "sealed" is actually somewhat of a myth. While they are tightly packaged, they still have little holes in the seal where air is allowed in and out. This is required because of pressure changes experienced in parcel delivery aircraft. Next time you look at a harddrive, see if you can't find a little bit of foam around the seal. That's the air hole through which pressure equalization occurs.
There's usually a sticker next to it warning you to not obstruct it.
