One thing that didn’t seem to be mentioned in the article, but is critical to attaining reliable connections, is the importance of not touching the bare wire or the wirewrap posts before wrapping.  Skin oils can compromise the connection and, depending on one’s diet, may be slightly acidic, which will eventually cause a loss of integrity.  Garth mentions the importance of cleanliness on his wirewrap page.  Back when I used to wirewrap things, I’d use isopropanol and a cotton swab to clean the posts and wire ends immediately before wrapping.

He’s right about the universal stripper—worst damned thing ever invented for electrical work.  I have a quality Klein stripper that goes from 22 AWG to 30 AWG and cleanly strips wirewrap wire.  While I don’t wirewrap anything anymore, I do use that type of wire for bodging PCBs.

I have a Klein stripper that manages 30AWG pretty well, but I get the best results with the little brass Radio Shack one that Garth mentions in the Primer.

I haven't tried in many years, but back in my old breadboard days the notch between my two front teeth did a satisfactory job. Not really sure what the effective AWG range was, though.

I think Michael Strahan used to use that technique as well. :D
