What markings on your 65816 DIP chips?

Post by BigEd »

Just a thought, we could collect the markings on any 65816 chips we have.

We might find for example that quite a few years of recent purchases are all from the same batch. Or that they are all very different.

Mine were bought, I think, in April 2008, or not far off. They are marked as follows:
W65C816S6PG-14
SA0627A

I got these a couple of years ago:

A couple of years before that, I got a couple of DIPs just for doing half cycle by half cycle experimenting with the various and instructions and interrupts, and years before that, five in PLCC:

(Pardon me for not taking them out of the taped-up tubes for the picture.)

Thanks - I dare say BDD can tell us the difference between S6 and S8 parts.

I believe it's 6 microns versus 8 microns in minimum die feature size (which is huge compared to the latest 6nm stuff).

Hmm, much too large... the original 6502 is about 6u, and in the mid 80s I was working with 1 micron.

Here we go: it's 0.6 and 0.8 micron. Still rather large!
