Just wanted to preview a Flash + EEPROM programmer shield PCB design and look for feedback/suggestions. I can't really afford a commercial device programmer so this seems like a relatively inexpensive way to be able to program the bargain priced 32-pin SST39SF series Flash ROMs as well as 28-pin 28C256 EEPROMs. After all, everyone has a $5 Arduino clone, right (grin)? Note: I still need to update the wiring diagram to reflect the flash/eeprom jumper wiring.

Stay safe. Cheerful regards, Mike, K8LH

Very good idea! I think I'm right in saying that some Arduinos are 5V and some 3.3V, so that might be important.

Yes, that's important. This 'shield' is meant to plug into a 5 volt Arduino Uno R3 or similar clone.

I updated the wiring diagram and ordered boards with a flat black solder mask. I chose the economy shipping option and should have them by the end of November (cost around $1.82 per board).

Stay safe. Cheerful regards...

Oh, if that's a ZIF socket, beware that they often have weird pins and need bigger holes. (This advice coming too late, of course!)

I think I'm ok, Ed. I used 0.0354" diameter holes and the ZIF sockets with the flat wide pins seem to press fit (lightly) into that quite well.

The PCBs turned out pretty nice and I've been workin' on software...

Stay safe, happy Holidays. Cheerful regards, Mike.
