I'm working on a small 65C02 project that's going to use an LCD screen as a primary display. I already have a 20x4 LCD. I assumed anything larger didn't exist. I searched and found nothing. Well, either my search terms were way off or something as I later found 40x4 LCD's on eBay and Aliexpress. They're a little pricey at around $20 shipped. Not the end of the world but smaller LCD's are much less. So I assume they are pricey because they were never common.
Have you guys seen many LCD's that size in the wild? Do they get larger?
I remember using a 40x4 one many (30?) years ago for a project. It was very expensive - more like over £100 at the time! But since then the largest I've used is 20x4.
Mouser has them for about £20 so probably the same in USD if you didn't want to buy via ebay...
Hm. they also have a 40x8 one too, but that's somewhat more pricey and out of stock... It would make for an interesting display for a hand-held though, but I suspect that these days that resolution is achieved much more cheaply using a graphical LCD type at the expense of more software needed to drive it from a 6502 (font, etc.)
Also be aware that some of the generic 16x2 ones are missing the user-definable character font RAM! I found this out recently - all to save a few cents by the clone makers, I guess...
Cheers,
