As far as 6502 projects go, this will be the most pathetic one ever brought here, but... you guys are the experts, so I am hoping someone can answer in 12 seconds what it would probably take me a year to Goggle because I don't know the terminology.

I've taken possession of an ancient Commodore 1541 disk drive that has been modded. A riser has been placed in the 6502 socket to add on a SuperCard+ drive accelerator. Nice and all, but it means the case cannot be properly closed, as the mod makes it too high now. There's no way to directly lower the mod, because the board would hit some other connectors coming out of the primary board. What I would like to do is be able to preserve the mod, but also properly close the case. I'm hoping there's some kind of ribbon cable that I could plug into the 6502 socket that would let me move the mod board to some better location to allow me to close the case.

But hardware is not my thing, this is a nostalgia project for me, and I'm just clueless about what I should order, or where I might find it. I'm sure this is because I am too uneducated on 6502 hardware to know the proper name of a cable. So, I'm asking you to take pity on me. :)

Below are some pics of the device to give you an idea of the issue.

What's an additional VIA among friends, anyhow?

Well, I think the implication there was that I make my own ribbon cable using two of these headers. That particular model doesn't have enough pins, but it's a solid idea I could probably manage to do without screwing up. Probably. Still, if there's a completed commercial product, I'd go with that over trusting myself, LOL.

There is a 40-pin version, and the picture on that page may go to a lesser-pin version, and it doesn't specify the number of pins anywhere I can find on that page; but I'm having trouble finding what the exact number should be for the 40-pinner. It might be too tall for what you want anyway though. Here's a screenshot of part of the "datasheet" (ha—some datasheet!)

Thanks! I had a sneaking suspicion I was going to have to fabricate what I needed, but it's the little things that wind up educating us! Much appreciated!

Please keep us posted on your progress. I have several of those 1541 drives myself (including a white "VIC" version).

I do hope, however, you're not considering cutting a hole in the top of the case? That look might be awesome on a vintage hot-rod...but not a 1541. LOL!

I agree!
Too bad the mod didn't come with a taller case.

We were building some OSI 600/610 replicas a while back and we needed DIP-DIP cables to join the 600 to the 610 boards.

We used these pre-made cables: https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/0/H6PPS-4006G-ND
