Quick Question - What kind of current should I be aiming at for my home built power supply for a 6502-based system. I'm only building the 5v at the moment, and since a 7805 offers ~1A I thought this would be a simple enough one-chip solution... but then I started wondering about the total current a basic WD65C02 system might draw.

Anyone with familiarity in building complete system want to post an opinion on required current?? :)

Supply current will depend on a lot of things including clock speed, but the one amp will be several times as much as you need. My workbench computer you can see on the project pages here, with about 20 ICs and running at 5MHz takes about 140mA including the non-CMOS RS-232 line drivers and receivers and a non-CMOS power hog can-type clock oscillator. That silly oscillator takes about 60mA IIRC. CMOS can-type oscillators are more common today than they were when I built this, and I should replace mine.

The first 65c02 computer I made ran at 150kHz to save power, and the whole thing, including the LCD, took just a couple of milliamps.

My SBC-2 uses approx 80mA. It has a W65c02, 2 W65c22's, an R65C51, 32k SRAM, 32k EEPROM, Max232 & 74LS30, 74LS00, & 74LS138. Its running at 2MHz.
