For Christmas, my wife bought me this awesome enclosure:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LGKE2GQ/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=VZ3KFW2VTF1A&coliid=I3FYHLNX73K0LF

It reminds me of an Altair and I just love the retro look of it.

I plan on cramming a 65C02 SBC in there with various ports cut out on the back. Such as DB-9's for VIA's and 65C51, RCA jacks for video/audio, etc.

However, I am looking for some ideas on how to provide some type of expansion. There isn't a ton of room in there but I know it's large enough for 2-3 slots. So, what kind of slot would you install inside? A card edge connector? Straight header pins? Something fancy like a NuBus connector?

I plan on pulling all pins of the 65C02 out to the slots plus various other pins like chip selects, etc. So 40 pins won't cut it. But 50 would work at a minimum.

It is indeed a very handsome enclosure!

Doing a nice packaging job can be very difficult if you need regular access to lots of connectors and other parts and yet want it somewhat compact and want things protected for transport. I've tried many approaches. However, there are many boxes like yours that just make you want to build something! :D

Do be sure to read the chapter in the 6502 primer on expansion buses and interfaces, at http://wilsonminesco.com/6502primer/ExpBusIntrfc.html .

What's an additional VIA among friends, anyhow?

Oh, I've read that primer many times. :-)

Yeah, I love that box.

Actually, I had an idea after I posted this that I might do. I'm thinking now to just put a few 50-pin headers on the board and literally run a SCSI cable out the back. The reason is that I found some more blue boxes like that but these are about 4" wide and about as tall as the one I have.

They scream floppy drive! I'm imagining that big blue box with a couple smaller boxes hosting floppy drives. Talk about retro.
