The BBC Micro was able to act as an i/o processor to an attached second processor(*), but the later cost-reduced Electron was not.

Over on stardot there's a project in progress to plug this important(!) gap.

(*) A faster 6502, a Z80 for CP/M, an 80186, a 32-bit NatSemi 32016, a third-party 68000 machine, and even an early ARM. More recently, John Kortink's ReCo6502 used a 65816 and Sprow offers an ARM. Strictly as a hobby project there's also a PDP-11.

Adding an ARM or second processor to the 6502 looks like fun.
