Hello all... I need another bit of help (yet again, LOL). Take alook at this page... http://www.geocities.com/lyosnorezel Can anyone tell me or link me to some info regarding how to link this gizmo to a 6502 computer? I'd like to use it to link prefab card to my computer... any help/info would be appreiciated.

P.S.-Coud some one tell me what the black slots are? Supposedly the white ones are PCI/ISA ports but the black ones are still unexplained(to me) and the brown one is the one that attaches to the motherboard but I don't know it's name or it's pinouts. I need pinout for all three... if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreiciate it.
P.P.S-Hopefully this'll be my last question of the day. LOL

Hi.

The black sockets are the 16 bit ISA bus. The White are PCI, and the Brown looks like a VLB (VESA Local Bus).

On the ISA ports, the longer socket (62 pins) is the original 8 bit ISA and the smaller socket (36 pins) was added for the 16 bit bus. It contained some additional IRQ's as well as the 8 additional data lines.

Hi:

The top connector, as you point out, is the proprietary connector used by the PC vendor to connect the riser card to the motherboard.

The black connectors are 16-bit ISA connectors (the short part of the connector being the 16-bit "extension" to the original PC-compatible 8-bit bus connector). In total, there are 62+36 pin positions.

The white connectors are indeed PCI connectors.

I don't know what components are on the PC Board, nor do I know what kind of 65xx computer you want to connect to this board. I think that the board you have is a bit overkill but, all other things being equal, I don't see why you couldn't use the three ISA connectors as a cheap backplane for your 65xx project.

For what it's worth, if I were building a new 65xx project for myself, I would use something like a 44-pin or 56-pin fine pitch connector, much ike the ones used in the VIC or C64. I've also looked into STD-BUS sized cards which are, IIRC, 44-pin cards. The good thing about STD-BUS is that you can sometimes find inexpensive card cages with backplanes on eBay. I got two that way.

Here is a pinout I found for the ISA bus:

As Rich pointed out, the top connector could be the interconnect slot and not a VLB.

Also, as Rich pointed out, it is most likely that this is just a backplane and therefore you could design you own pinouts as you need. You would have to do a continuity check and also trace out any components that are on the board besides the sockets.

To get the pinouts do a quick Google search. I happen to like The Hardware Book (http://www.hardwarebook.net/) for my pinouts and cable/connector needs.

Looking at the top connector again, it could be a VLB connector. I don't have a VLB board handy to check it out.
