Hello there. I'm new to the forums, and I have a question for 6502 DIY computer veterans.

It's my intention to construct a homebrew 65xx based computer and have purchased a DATEL EPROMMER 64 in order to burn ROMs. I thought the device supported 27xxx series EPROMS -only-. To my surprise, the software has an "ERASE E-EPROMS" option, which I take to mean it can handle 28xxx series EEPROMS, too.

Is this correct? Would an EEPROM equivalent to the 27C128 be the 28C128?

First, welcome to the forums!...

Instead of a 28C128, equivalent 128Kx8 EEPROMS that I found are made by a company called Atmel. They're the 28C010, see if your programmer supports those. I looked them up on Digikey, and they were ~$35US each!?!
Instead of looking for EEPROMS, maybe you should look for FLASH. They are basically the same.
I found a 5Volt 128Kx8 SST39SF010A-70-4C-PHE Flash for $1.87, and it's a 32-pin DIP.

Go to an electronics sight like DigiKey or Mouser or Newark, and type in some parts from your programmer's compatibility list. That's a great way to get a feel for what it can do.

I think the Datel Eprommer 64 is a device to plug into the C64 (user or expansion port). Don't think it burns devices larger than 32k (or maybe 64k), or any of the Flash devices

Oh jeez. I overlooked the fact those 27C128 are 16Kx8, 128Kbits. Won't find any of those, except maybe on ebay.

Someone over on the Commodore 64 forums may be able to help.

Andre, you're correct. It's a C64 user port EPROM programmer. BTW, last I looked, Jameco still listed 27C128s.
