They're only 60MHz in the x10 position (ie, the switch on the probe itself in in that position). In the x1 position they're probably only good for a couple MHz. Do take care of them. Good probes are not cheap to replace. And yes, the 'scope and probes will have to be good for many times your maximum frequency to semi-accurately show what's going on in your square waves, because of the harmonics it takes to form them.

If your half meter of wire is between the 9V battery and the regulator, and the regulator has input capacitors, it's ok.
