After waiting 10 years in the basement of our house I just pulled out my 4032 yesterday to check if it's still working. And it does :-)
Even the "chirp" during reset is present and the monitor look bright and sharp.

This thing is nearly as old a I and spent the last 10 years under improper conditions, but after cleaning the surface nothing more was needed to get it back to life.

My idea is to use it as my development and testing machine for MOUSE but therefore I need to switch it to 80 column mode.

Does anybody know how I do this?

It is an original 4032-12 (fat forty) currently running with 40 columns. There should be a way to switch this to 80 columns. It is an American model driven by a 220V to 110V converter.

Mario.

4032, does the 40 not mean it can only do 40x25?

The 8032 was the 80x25 variant.

I do remember kits to change a 4032 (the fat one) to 8032 by adding a couple of 2114s and some TTL and updated ROMS.

Yes I know. The later 4032 and 8032 shared the same "universal" mainboard (Rev. 2 for mine as I know meanwhile) and can be configured to run in 40 or 80 column mode by setting several jumper-wires on the board as well as updating the ROMs (Editor-ROM afaik).

But I decided to let it stay in 40 col mode. It's working quite well and I created a 28C64 EEPROM Adapter to user the two ROM sockets with current EEPROM models : http://www.ichbinzustaendig.de/2014/05/11/8kb-rom-board-fuer-den-cbm-4032.html
