I usually take the conservative route also. I guess it's from my past failures that I try to avoid any new problems. :oops:

I agree with everything you and Garth have said. Things aren't usually mission critical on building a new SBC project and it's actually part of the learning process to just build it and see how it works. Then build a another one with new improvements and some bug removals and so on and on...

Sometimes it's good to push the limits just for an experiment to find out where they are and how much safety margin you're actually giving it when you're "being conservative."

Yes, best not to overcook things. There's conservative, and there's over-engineering! Any first project or quick-and dirty experiment doesn't need half the "precautions" that get bandied about.

See for example Various homebuilt 6502 machines (including Veronica) for people having fun getting their projects up and running.

Best not to apply industrial practices to your hobby, if it's any barrier to getting started. The finesse can come later.
